The Solomon Islands Urban Conference (SINUC) was planned for June 27 – 29, 2016 in Honiara and to be hosted by the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Survey (MLHS) and supported by Secretariat of Pacific Community (SPC) and UN-HABITAT.

The theme for the year was “Reconnecting the Urban Dots”. It sought to reconnect all issues of the urban planning and development in Solomon Islands. It also looked at why urban planning seemed to be lagging behind in terms of transforming urban development at an anticipated pace and scale.

The programme also set the stage for the new proposed National Urbanization Policy (NUP) currently in draft form and to allow the group make a thorough review of the contents. There were presentations from international speakers, ministry officials, provincial government planning boards and utility providers. Participation was by invitation.
